Dallas Cowboys rookie Sam Williams impresses in practice debut

It’s safe to say that Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sam Williams turned heads. After the Dallas rookie camp session on Friday, the Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy caught quickly sang his praises. The Cowboys drafted Williams with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was the first Ole Miss player to be taken off the board.

“I think we would all agree that Sam Williams looks like a guy who was born to play professional football,” McCarthy said. according to the Dallas Morning News. “He has the gifts. He has the physical traits. He had two pass rushes today. I know we only wear helmets, but it was clean in the backfield. He has that kind of ability. He’s in a great place. He is obviously in a great system from which he will certainly benefit. I think he will come out of this extremely soon for us.

While it’s no secret the Cowboys liked what they saw of Williams in the pre-draft process, most analysts had Williams as a third- or fourth-round pick. Dallas, however, apparently felt they had to make a move for Williams then or risk losing him. Williams ran a 4.46 40-yard sprint and jumped 32.5 inches at the NFL Combine. He worked with the Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn inside the Manning Center in Oxford at Ole Miss Pro Day.

“I am relentless” Williams told reporters, via Jon Machota. “I’m a beast. I’m a dog. I love the game. I study the game. They have a player who wants to win, who wants to go beyond. I’m ready to put on my cleats and do what I have to do to show that I’m one of the best guys in this draft class.

Dallas got an athletic rusher in Williams, who broke the modern school record at Ole Miss with 12.5 sacks in 2021. He likely won’t be asked to start immediately for the Cowboys, but he has the tools to become a rusher right away. the bat. It will help to fill the void left by the departure of Randy Gregory to the Denver Broncos.
