What Are Good Pet Toys? – Sentinel and Company

DEAR PET: What are the right toys for your pet?

– Love all pets

DEAR LOVES ALL PETS: The best toy for any pet is your time and love. When you play with your cat, dog, rabbit or “pet” they get the message that you are a trusted person. But it’s not just mammals that love to play – talk to someone who raises chickens, or has a parrot, or even raises fish or a reptile, and you’ll hear stories about these creatures who want to interact with them. their human.

Still, it’s giveaway season and every animal would love a new toy! Cats are fairly easy to buy – catnip for over a year olds, and toys that roll, shake, or have dangling (securely attached) parts. Avoid toys made of Mylar, or any plastic wrap that shatters, or has thin plastic strings that can be torn off and swallowed. Fishing rods with a ribbon will be appreciated.

Dogs are often happy with a ball – any size will do, or a fun toy to carry. Our dog, Sarr-yu enjoys hunting a thrown pine cone – since we live near the woods, she will never run out of toys.

Another easy-to-make dog fun is a “tug toy”. Take three pieces of fabric that are about 2 to 3 inches wide and at least 22 inches long. Tie off at the top, then braid. Link at the bottom. Some dogs, like intimidating breeds, like to have something they can play “tug of war” with. Tell us about your pet’s favorite toys.
