Viola R. Becker

LIVERMORE – Viola R. Becker reached the end of her wonderful life and passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2021 at the age of 95 in Livermore, Maine.

Viola was born on March 30, 1926 in Hillman, Michigan, to Charlotte and Frederick Bahrke.

Viola met Wallace Becker on a train to Detroit, Michigan, where their romance began, and Wally knew she was the love of his life and they fell in love. Wallace and Viola were married in Alpena on December 16, 1944. They had celebrated 71 years of marriage, when Wallace predeceased her in 2016.

Viola grew up on a working farm in Royston, Michigan, where she learned to drive a truck before she was of legal driving age. After her marriage to Wallace and moving to New Jersey, she helped her stepfather drive his dump truck when he needed help.

Viola has held a number of jobs over the years while living in New Jersey, but her favorite was to work at Navesink House in Red Bank, where she planned and cooked for retired residents, and learned to got to know them and became friends with them.

Viola always had a garden where she grew a lot of the vegetables that she cooked and put on our table for dinner, and set them up to have them later when the growing season was over. She really enjoyed canning her own vegetables from her own garden every year.

After moving with Wally to Maine in 2003, she became involved with the local Woman’s Club, where she cooked and made handicrafts to sell to benefit local charities. She also enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Viola also liked to send and receive cards and letters in the mail. She was always trying to remember birthdays and holidays, or just send a note to say hello!

Viola and Wally loved to camp and fish and they even traveled across the United States in an RV trailer to visit national parks after their retirement. They have enjoyed spending summers in their RVs in Northern Michigan for many years, camping, fishing, bonfires, going to bingo, shopping with their nieces and great-great-nephews, and most importantly. spending time with her extended family in Michigan, who she misses terribly.

Viola’s life was full and adventurous, she had a smile that lit a room, she was a very talented woman with many different talents and she passed on many traits to her family, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her, understand that her existence and the imprint she has left on our hearts exceeds the amount of time she has spent here in her incredible 95 years of life.

Viola is survived by her children Danny Becker and wife Joan, Charlotte McKennon and husband Thomas, Kevin Becker and “Ollie”, the family’s beloved dog, Wanda Kobischen and her husband Eric, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Viola is now at peace with her husband Wally and her parents, as well as all her siblings, as well as many close family members; one can only imagine the reunited party that they must all have! She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is forever in our hearts. Condolence messages can be sent to:
