“Hawkeye”: meet Pizza Dog | wonder

Sure, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop’s main enemy is the tracksuit mafia, but there’s another opponent to watch out for: the squirrels. You never know when a pesky squirrel might pop up out of nowhere, and that bushy tail can have dire consequences. Well, at least in the scenes involving filming with Pizza Dog, that is.

Marvel studios Hawk Eye presents to the world the one and only Pizza Dog, played by a really good boy named Jolt. The idea of bringing the four-legged, one-eyed friend into the show has always been part of the show’s DNA, because as executive producer Trinh Tran explains to Marvel.com, “In the comics, in Matt Fraction and David Aja’s race, Pizza Dog is number three on the call sheet.

Early conversations on the show involved “quite a bit of time trying to figure out how we can make history with Pizza Dog in a fun way.”

The creative team decided that Kate would casually meet Pizza Dog first, before she saved him from the tracksuits mafia and oncoming traffic. “It was about how to do it in an organic way that makes sense. So it doesn’t feel like a dog just suddenly appeared in the story and how did that happen? It has to do with how the dog meets Kate and shows his nature of wanting to be a hero, and it was a good deed she did to save him.

“Connecting them in a way that showcases his characters and hero traits, but also bringing the dog in in a way that makes sense to the story,” Tran continues. “Along the way, Pizza Dog also builds that bond with Clint. So together, the three become that trio that forms that friendship throughout the series.

But how do you find the right dog to play Pizza Dog? Yes, there were dog auditions.

“We had several dogs; we had pictures and we recorded the dogs based on what they can do, ”Tran laughs. “We went from there, trying to really figure out which dog is the best to play Pizza Dog. And Jolt, our amazing dog on the set, was chosen for that.

While acting in front of a dog might seem intimidating, Hailee and Jeremy were both extremely willing to let a good boy into their group, even if he sometimes got distracted by the squirrels.

“It was so much fun; I’m a dog lover,” exclaims Hailee Steinfeld. “The minute I knew Pizza Dog was as much a part of this show as he was, I was very excited. was definitely a challenge, the dog is incredibly well trained – don’t get me wrong – but he’s a dog. When he sees a squirrel, he wants to hang out with the squirrel.

Episode 3, “Echoes”, involves Clint, Kate, and Pizza Dog walking through the park … which is a place teeming with squirrels.

“We’re trying to have a very serious walk through Washington Square Park,” Renner says. “I can get a lot of important information because I’m carrying a backpack, a quiver and a bow, and all those other things. And then I have this dog trying, again, to have a moment with a squirrel. So sometimes difficult but above all a lot of fun.

Renner adds: “I ended up loving the dog a lot, he is well trained”, until “a squirrel came”.

As the series progresses, Kate quickly forms a bond with Pizza Dog, having full conversations with him using the puppy as a sounding board.

“You see and hear Kate talking to herself a lot or have times when she’s either trying to contain her excitement or figure something out, out loud,” Steinfeld continues. “It’s the same thing she has with Pizza Dog where she talks to the dog. She’s looking for a connection. She sort of gets away with it when she has those moments to herself out loud. But there are times that she has with this dog when she doesn’t accept the fact that he is hers or that she is responsible for him. But this connection is growing; she feels that what she is looking for in everyone around her. And it’s pretty cute that she finds it with Pizza Dog.

And while Renner is also a self-proclaimed dog lover, he too was happy to leave the leash in Steinfeld’s hands.

“The dog couldn’t be cuter. I ended up really loving the dog, ”Renner recalls. ” I do not know if [Clint’s] supposed to be [friendly] towards him. I was just sitting and he’s next to me, he looks at me cute. Hot breath coming over me. He was a wonderful contribution to the show. He’s a good boy.
