Equipment manufacturer launches new bag opening system

BROSSARD, QUEBEC — Equipment and technology provider Luxme International Ltd. launched its new bag slitting equipment in March that provides food safety with dust suppression. The MINILux bag cutter enables faster infeed speed and increased revenue and material recovery, according to the company.

Growing concerns for food safety and plant environments in the pet food industry prompted Luxme to create the new MINILux. The MINILux enables automated high-volume bag cutting that includes optional stand-alone dust collection, removing dust from plant environments and protecting plant workers and processed pet food. According to Luxme, the MINILux recovers around 1.5% to 2% more product at a rate around 1.8 to 2 times faster, compared to a simple bag dump station.

With food grade, USDA and FDA certified internal parts, the MINILux can open six 25 kg (55 lb) bags of all types per minute. The system features an all-in-one conveying system, including splitting, emptying, dust filtering and compacting. To provide additional food safety, the MINILux has several cleaning areas for easy cleaning.

Dust removal from the MINILux obviates the need for a separate ventilation system, which would increase a business’s operating costs, according to Luxme. The dust collection system can be stand-alone or sent to a different system. The autonomous MINILux dust extractor recovers the product and channels it for reuse. The dust collector also offers an option for an additional tap, allowing connection to a central dust collector or ventilation system.

“MINILux is the technology of the future – its operating features increase productivity and provide increased efficiency, better air quality and workplace safety for a more cost effective and ergonomic bag cutting solution,” said Rick Leroux , vice-president and general manager of Luxme.
