Tuesday January 4

* The Duneland Photography Club meets at 7 pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, with guest speaker Dave Lasayko, who will discuss “Cinematic Photography and Film Development”. He studied at the University of Valparaiso and enjoys all forms of photography. Wednesday January 5

* Duneland Seniors meet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday in the Hawthorne Park Community Building in Porter. For more information, call Cathy Ellis, (219) 252-2178.

* Porter County election officials will hold a meeting at 5 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers at the Administrative Center, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, for public input on the polling centers.

Thursday January 6

* From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Bethlehem Lutheran Quilting Group meets at the church at 2050 County Road 1100 North, making quilts to raise funds for the church’s emergency financial aid for families in distress and for Lutheran World Relief. Friday January 7

* The Duneland Family YMCA is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. Call (800) 733-2767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter duneymca to make an appointment. Donors who join the Y will have their membership fees waived.

Saturday January 8

* The Duneland Weavers Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at Three Moon Fiberworks, 402 Broadway, Chesterton. There will be a hands-on program after the meeting presented by Sherron Pampalone for weaving on a circular cardboard loom. Participants must bring cardboard cutting scissors; a small piece of cardboard; duct tape, a ruler and a pencil; different textures of yarn strands; and heavy cotton for the warp, such as Sugar and Cream, 5/2 or 3/2.

Sunday January 9

* St. John’s United Church will be hosting its free community dinner from 3:30 pm to 5 pm at the church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Chesterton. It will be in the form of a drive-thru to collect packaged meals. Enter from Lincoln Street only. The meal includes white chili, a hot dog and bun, and a brownie for dessert. Everyone is welcome. Monday January 10

* The Chesterton Woman’s Club meets at noon at the Duneland Boys & Girls Club, 512 W. 1100 North, Chesterton. Pantry items to give away are pasta and tomato sauce. The meeting hostesses are Gerry Malokowski and Kathy Hanson. Jeanie Campbell Buchheit is the speaker for the meeting. She and her family have been raising assistance dogs since 1992 and she will be discussing dog training.

* The Duneland School Board will meet at 5:00 pm in an executive session at the Administration Center, 601 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton, to discuss training.

* The Duneland School Board will meet at 6:00 p.m. for its regular meeting at the Chesterton Middle School Auditorium, 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton. Masks are mandatory and provided if it is not possible to maintain a social distance of 6 feet.

* Porter County election officials will hold a meeting at 5 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers at the Administrative Center, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, for public input on the polling centers.

Friday January 14

* The YMCA of Duneland hosts Parent’s Night to give parents a break while the kids enjoy safe and fun activities from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Y. The night is open to children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old and includes games, crafts, dinner and more. The cost per session, per child is $ 15 for Y members and $ 20 for the community. Thursday, January 20

* The Dunes-Calumet Audubon company will present a Zoom program on winter duck species that can be found in northwest Indiana. Board member and bird watcher Michael Topp will review the identification points for the wide variety of ducks found during the cold winter months. The free program will be broadcast via Facebook Live and Zoom at 7 p.m. The Zoom ID is 836 7432 6648 and the passcode is 028586.

Friday January 21

* Join the instructors at the YMCA of Duneland for the latest version of BodyPump, a barbell workout with music, 6-7 p.m. Registration is required. The event is free for Y members. Call the Y at (219) 926-4204 to register or drop by www.dunelandymca.org/classes.
