“A large part of my life that has been ripped away”

A Chandler woman was devastated after someone broke into her home and stole his 11 dogs in March.

Today, eight of Jeanine Nesvik’s dogs have been returned, but that joy is mixed with grief as three of them are still missing.

“It’s a weird feeling…to be so happy to have some of them back, and then anxious to not know where the others are, and angry that it happened,” Nesvik said.

Jeanine works with Track your heart animal rescue in Mesa, and many dogs were foster families for this rescue.

Two missing puppies were adopted. The other dog that has yet to be found is his personal, trained therapy dog, Leah.

“She was just a big part of my life that was ripped out,” Nesvik said. “Not all dogs are made for everything, but she was.”

Jeanine says the dogs that were returned have medical conditions that require daily medication, and they were all returned in poor condition. One of them had to be taken to the emergency room.

She thinks he was trying to get out of a cage.

“Stealing the dogs, not caring for them and throwing them away,” she said. “That does not make any sense.”

Jeanine says they scoured Craigslist, looking to see if anyone was selling their dogs. A $20,000 reward is being offered for returning the dogs and a $1,000 reward to anyone who can guarantee they are at least still alive.

“If anyone sees them for sale or has bought them to come forward, please let us know,” she said.
